There is no telling where time is

"Time is nowhere.

We stand; leaves have not timed the summer.

No clock now needs

Tell we have only what we remember:

Minutes uproaring with our heads

Like an unfortunate King's and his Queen's

When the senseless mob rules;

And quietly the trees casting their crowns

Into the pools."

  1. Beautiful Ted Hughes poem and photos!

I love the Montale poem you left over at my place!! This afternoon I picked up the book of poetry by Giuseppe Ungaretti that I reserved and am looking forward to reading through it this weekend. :)

  3. It still looks very much like summer there. We are definitely showing signs of the impending autumn - leaves are reddening, the nights are nippy, days shorter, the light is changed...

  4. Willow,
I have long been an admirer of Ted Hughes' power of words, and I am glad he's had a sort of "revival" lately.
I am looking forward to your opinion about Ungaretti, especially regarding the translation!

    Charles Gramlich,
these flowers bloom by a large pond in the middle of the Schweizer Garten (Swiss Garden) park. Great play of light and shadows around noon.

    TLC Illustrations,
Tara, the nights are a little cooler than in August, thank heaven, because during the day the temperature's still climbing into the nineties.

  6. I love Ted Hughes poetry...and I love the images you "see" and capture for us--it's always a treat to go strolling through Vienna with you!

  7. Love the words. I may have to add this to my ever growing list of reading material. My self of to read is getting quite stacked. This poetry sounds like it would inspire lots of art and thought.

  8. Lovely. Wouldn't it be a blessing to be able to live without a watch. Would it give us more time to really see the beauty around us, as you do in your photos?

Thanks for introducing me to yet another poet.

I was planning to write a "poetry on a Sunday"-post this morning and sat with several poem books. But didn't find and that caught my spirit. So instead I wrote about a favorite game I play when I travel .-)

  9. Blowsy roses and a rickety picket fence - my kind of walk.
